I am an information scientist with a minor in sociology, specializing in data analysis, visualization, and coding. My interest is in finding the intersection between hard data, structural influences, and cultural backgrounds at the heart of human stories. Especially those who are disenfranchised. Data by itself rarely, if ever, tells the full story. There are multiple layers of human emotion and history behind these data points, and ignoring them would be a disservice to the people who deserve to have their voices heard. As the world of technology advances, I believe it's more important than ever to remember the humans who will be disenfranchised by another person's gain.
Using Python, Power BI, SQL, and intercultural communication, I have led projects exploring the relationship between demographics and the impact institutions have on their future outcomes. One case examined the United States' disproportionate number of infections during the COVID-19 pandemic in Python and Pandas to formulate potential prevention plans for pandemics. Another focused on first-generation students' unique struggles within the education system. Ranging from the lack of resources in the form of knowledge family members can provide to ease the transition to college, to communal pressures to succeed for the benefit of an entire family and how this may be breaking from traditions.
